Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture
What can I expect during the initial exam?
Chinese medicine is holistic and aims to discover the root of any particular illness. Your initial consultation will be a discussion of your main health concerns. Your pulse will also be taken and your tongue will be examined. This will be followed by a more detailed conversation about your medical history and lifestyle.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Insertion of the slender, disposable needles often goes unnoticed. During the treatment, the patient may feel tingling, warmth or heaviness, all indications that qi is being activated. Sometimes, qi can be felt moving to different parts of the body. Needles remain in place for 15-30 minutes, allowing the patient to feel deep relaxation.
How often do I have to come?
During your initial consultation you'll be given an idea of how many treatments are needed. Acute pain or recent injuries often respond in 3-4 sessions, while treatment of chronic illness can take much longer. Patients are encouraged to actively participate in the healing process through healthful diet and lifestyle.
What are Chinese herbs and are they safe?
Herbs work synergistically with acupunture to stimulate healing. They treat not only symptoms, but the root of the problem and alter the disease process to prevent reoccurrence.
